Multi Protocol Label Switching

Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a connection-oriented technology that offers unique traffic engineering capabilities that can improve network usage. MPLS can be used to improve IP routing efficiency by moving traffic glows away from the shortest path determined by conventional routing, and onto less congested paths through the network.

This concise application note provides a quick introduction to MPLS and a few easy test steps required to test the router's forwarding capabilities and provide performance measurements.

It then continues to discuss the basics of MPLS and the basic steps required to test a router's forwarding capabilities and then measuring in real-time the router's ability to efficiently forward traffic from the appropriate output interfaces.
