As SONET/SDH evolve to the next generation, new
devices e.g Multi Service Switching Platforms (MSSP)
and Multi Service Provisioning Platforms (MSPP) are
being implemented to meet the new demands made by the
increasing range of data types and bandwidths that need
to be transported.
To meet changes in the structure of the network that
these new devices bring, different test methodologies
are required to verify that the network continues to
function when things go wrong.
The network is extremely complex, and many things can
go wrong at the same time. A simple point-to-point test
is no longer adequate to verify robustness under all
operating conditions.
