Question and Answer
How do I test "Martini" layer 2 MPLS performance
with the Agilent RouterTester on Gigabit Ethernet interfaces?
At present we can test Layer 2 MPLS performance
in the following fashion:
Emulated CE in RT --> SUT supporting Martini
--> Emulated P + PE in RT
We can send Ethernet traffic from the CE
source, which can be encapsulated by SUT using Martini draft
procedures, and sent across an MPLS tunnel which can be set
up with the destination PE. We can capture this labeled traffic
received by the PE. What we can measure is the standard traffic
characteristics of traffic received, thus giving the performance
of the SUT. What we cannot do at this stage is set up the
Layer 2 related Virtual Circuit (as defined in the Martini
draft) between the SUT and the destination PE. This feature
will be available shortly.
