With the dramatic increase in the use of the web for business,
the complexity of browser based computing and consequently
enterprise networks and service provider hosted service networks
has exponentially risen. The complexity arises from the need
to intermix various pieces of specialised technology including
routers, firewalls, layer2/3 switches, load-balancing devices,
cache servers and web servers, in an attempt to deliver fast,
reliable and error free web performance.
The interconnection and interdependencies of these devices
directly impacts web performance. One way to improve performance
is to control how traffic enters the network. Content switching
(or URL or Layer 7 switches) is a new generation of networking
architected to provide the highest level of control over incoming
web traffic. Content switching interrogates the HTTP header
to make load-balancing and content acceleration decisions
based on the content availability and the load on the server.
This results in consistently improved web performance.
Combined with the Agilent
N2X multi-service tester, the Agilent
NetworkTester companion product expands Agilent's comprehensive
portfolio by providing performance testing of Layer 4-7 security
and content networking devices and application services.
