Agilent Technologies Introduces New Ethernet
Packet Generation and Performance Analysis Cards and Small
Footprint Chassis for Affordable Network Device Testing
LAS VEGAS, Networld+Interop, April 29, 2003
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced two
new Ethernet cards, cost-optimized for packet generation and
performance analysis, and a new small-footprint,
two-card RouterTester 900 chassis. Together, these products
provide customers with a powerful, cost-effective solution
for packet testing of network devices, including switches,
routers and access equipment. These products will be demonstrated
at Agilent booth #6642.
Both the 16-port 10/100
Ethernet card and the
two-port Gigabit Ethernet card provide industry-first
simultaneous measurement of packet performance on more than
32,000 individual packet streams per test port, at a per-port
price that is among the lowest in the industry. This permits
developers and users to determine upper performance limits
of network equipment and accurately predict the number of
customer services that devices can support.
System software used by both cards features an advanced protocol
data unit (PDU) builder that allows users to quickly and easily
create virtually any type of Layer 2 to Layer 7 test packet
or frame, and apply any type of network encapsulation to it,
including L2oMPLS, L2TP, GRE, VLAN, Frame Relay and PPP encapsulations.
A graphical user interface (GUI) speeds the creation of thousands
of customized streams. Traffic loads can be changed dynamically
during testing, allowing users to quickly measure how varying
traffic configurations affect forwarding performance.
The high-density two-slot chassis has been designed for work
environments where small size or portability is a priority,
including crowded development labs and desktops, and field
troubleshooting applications. It weighs only 5.1 kilograms
(11.2 lbs) and occupies less than 0.6 square feet (540 square
centimeters) of space, and includes a built-in handle. Two
users can share access to a single chassis, with independent
control of their own test ports. Cards can be hot-swapped
between chassis, and multiple chassis can be daisy-chained
together to provide a larger, synchronized packet testing
system. An innovative design allows the unit to be used horizontally
or vertically, saving even more space.
