New Interfaces Available for RouterTester

Users can now make use of RouterTester's wire-speed, multi-port traffic generation and performance analysis capabilities over two new 10/100 and 10Gigabit Ethernet test cards. These new interfaces increase RouterTester's test-connectivity that already includes OC3/12/48 & 192 POs, Gigabit Ethernet, ATM and more. IPv6 Traffic Generation & Analysis

Enhanced IPv6 forwarding capabilities now provides simultaneous wire-speed IPv6 and IPv4 traffic generation and analysis. This enhancement allows the concurrent generation of hundreds of individual IPv6 and IPv4 traffic streams per port to stress packet processing, forwarding engines, and switching fabric resources. The IPv6 Traffic Generation & Analysis enhancement is provided to existing customers as part of the RouterTester Software Enhancement Service. The Industry's First GMPLS RSVP Conformance Test Suite

RouterTester continues the expansion of its comprehensive protocol conformance test capabilities with the release of the automated GMPLS RSVP Conformance Test Suite (E5172A). Key features include:

• Link Management Protocol support
• Fully automated stimulus-and-response test suite, that contain 220+ test cases
• Verification of proprietary protocol extensions
• Controllable debug level for detailed diagnosis
• Clear verdict assignments for each test case
• Customizable test scripts
• Ability to test in-band and out-of-band signaling transport

New Automated QuickTests

The QuickTest library includes a comprehensive range of predefined scripts that automate functional and performance testing across the full spectrum of router and network behavior. The Tcl scripts are based on test cases published in The Journal of Internet Test Methodologies. With the release of RouterTester 5.1 software we have updated a number of existing QuickTests to handle IPv6 traffic and included the following new QuickTests:

• New MPLS Tests using LDP (Ingress/Egress/Transit LSRs)
• New Forwarding Tests (ChannelizedTraffic, SweepEthernetFrameSize, TtlHopLimit)
• New IPv6 Tests (IPv6AutomaticTunnelingFunctionality, IPv6ConfiguredTunnelingFunctionality)
• New Tools (AddLdpLsps, CreatePvcTrafficFlowSet, IPv6Layer4TrafficGenerator, TraceRoute)

10GBASE-W Test Capabilities added to OC-192c POs

With the release of RouterTester 5.1 software, we offer 10GbE WAN support on the E7903A and E7913A modules, enabling realistic testing of Gigabit and Terabit routers with OC-192c POs or 10GBASE-W interfaces, throughout development and deployment. See the OC-192c technical datasheet to review the details about this new feature.

Layer-2 MAC Address Enhancement

As an enhancement to the IP Performance test feature, improving the L2 MAC Addressing capabilities allows the user to easily assign Source and Destination MAC addresses, VLAN ID & 802.1p priority to a set of IP flows. This means that RouterTester users can now test:

• Layer 2 Forwarding
• Layer 2 QoS
• Layer 2 ACL Verification

System-wide Power, Speed and Usability Enhancements

RouterTester 5.1 release provides significant improvements in response time when performing configuration-intensive tasks, for instance adding traffic streams and routing sessions. Measurements show that from the GUI you may now:

• Add ports up to 10x faster
• Add full traffic mesh from 10x to 100x faster
• Add traffic streams from 10x to 100x faster
• Add routing sessions, routers, pools, etc.from 10x to 100x faster
• Reset session from 10x to 100x faster
• Restore a saved configuration from 3x to 100x faster!

The enhancements to RouterTester system software listed in this bulletin are provided automatically to customers who have purchased a RouterTester system controller within the past twelve months. Customers who have purchased a RouterTester system prior to that time should contact their Agilent Sales Representative or click here for more information.

Unless specified, enhancements come with standard RouterTester software (E7850A: RouterTester IP & MPLS Performance Software, or E7860A: IP Traffic Test Software Bundle)
